The majestic elephant is the largest of the animals and may live for up to 60 years. It has poor eyesight, but a marvelous memory and a keen sense of smell, and its great size and strength protects it from attack. This gentle giant, prized for its ivory is declining in numbers to the point, in places, of regional extinction.
